The Member for Goldman Sachs gets rolled. There will be an interruption to our scheduled program.
The Labor Party's ETS "great big tax on everything" was defeated in the Senate - the vote was lost 41-33, with independent senators Steve Fielding and Nick Xenophon as well as the five Greens voting with the opposition.
Dishonourable mentions to Liberal Senators Sue Boyce and Judith Troeth, who crossed the floor to vote with the Labor rabble. Senator Troeth did however, share some of her valuable insight into why she chose the course of action. She said that her experiences in the bush and in farming had convinced her climate change was real. She then went on to add:
"Droughts are longer. Rainfall has dropped," she told the Senate.
"In short I believe there is global warming."
So there you have it - it is a matter of religious belief for the Senator. She "believes" there is global warming.
As a statement of political conviction, this rates right up there with U.S. Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow (below), who can discern global warming while she is flying. Back in August, the erudite Senator from Michigan had this to say:
“Climate change is very real,” she confessed as she embraced cap and trade’s massive tax increase on Michigan industry – at the same time claiming, against all the evidence, that it would not lead to an increase in manufacturing costs or energy prices. “Global warming creates volatility. I feel it when I’m flying. The storms are more volatile. We are paying the price in more hurricanes and tornadoes.”
Good grief, Charlie Brown. No wonder they say that 'the science is settled'.
